East Side Mags is HONORED to host a signing for the final issue of an amazing, independently created comic that holds so much weight in the world we live in.

Written by Harvard Law School Professor Alan Jenkins and NY Times bestselling author Gan Golan, 1/6, and under the auspices of the Western States Center, the graphic novel, shows how strategic disinformation, white supremacy, and cynical political ambition convinced millions to reject cherished constitutional values and thousands to engage directly in violent sedition.

1/6 chillingly predicted how we have progressed towards authoritarian rule in America and the erosion of democracy. In the tradition of speculative fiction from George Orwell’s 1984 to Margaret Atwood’s Handmaid’s Tale to the Twilight Zone, it explores themes of autocracy, scapegoating, strategic disinformation, and more through a compelling, character-driven narrative.

Centering on the action packed adventures of modern day heroes, the final issue takes a deep dive into real life strategies of resistance movements from around the world, featuring (spoiler alert!) a call for a General Strike.

The story is a warning of what life under authoritarian rule can become, but also a story of hope and resistance, and underscores the power and potential of organizing by everyday people to protect and affirm our democracy.
