Tunis to Sydney Signing

Taking a side-step from super-hero comics and graphic novels, East Side Mags is stoked to welcome Meriam & Christian Carnouche, bringing their slice-of-life story exploring a Muslim woman’s experiences as a North African living away from home called Tunis to Sydney!

About the book: Lilia and Bill enjoy a quiet life in the heart of Sydney, Australia. Bill is a local, while Lilia hails from Tunisia, making them an unconventional but inseparable pair. Their happiness has always been unshakeable, until that day.

When Lilia receives the devastating news of her parents' tragic death in a car accident, a staggering ten thousand miles away, she's consumed by a profound sense of shock. The weight of unspoken questions surfaces. Did she fail her parents by not being there for them throughout the years?

As they hastily journey to Tunis for the funeral, Bill stands steadfastly by Lilia's side, offering unwavering support. Yet, this journey unveils the fault lines in Lilia's life, leading her to confront a cascade of profound questions. An olive tree, symbol of peace and healing, owned by Lilia's parents, becomes the center of attention, and triggers a dramatic situation that will change her forever.

Dive into a poignant graphic novel that delves into the labyrinth of grief, resilience in the face of loss, and the complexities of human relationships.

About the creators: Christian and Meriam are a French-Tunisian-Australian married couple and co-wrote Tunis to Sydney. They are based in NYC after having lived for many years in The Netherlands and France.

The themes for Tunis to Sydney sprang directly from Meriam’s experiences as a Tunisian woman living overseas and from her search for home and belonging, while Christian and has also lived overseas for a long time.

Christian previously wrote the comic book mini-series, The Resurrected, an anthology of comic book shorts called Murky Waters, and has authored a number of short comics for anthologies.

Although Tunis to Sydney was Meriam’s first full-length graphic novel, she collaborated with Christian on a short story in the Murky Waters anthology.

Christian and Meriam are currently working on a new graphic novel, also set in Tunisia.

Please join us on January 25 from 2pm-5pm to check out this amazing graphic novel!

Marleys Ghost Signing w/ Gideon Kendall

Gideon Kendall, the spectacular artist behind some of great reads like WAIT IT GETS WORSE and the all-ages hit MEGAGHOST, returns to East Side Mags with his new-ish book HARVEY KURTZMAN’S MARLEY’S GHOST!

We say “new-ish” because it’s largely a story most people are familiar with however there’s a bit of a twist on ole Charles Dicken’s tale. Here’s the info:

ABLAZE and Comixology Originals are proud to present Harvey Kurtzman's Marley's Ghost. Enjoy this Eisner Award Winning version of Dickens' A Christmas Carol in graphic novel form, in print for the first time!

Marley's Ghost is the posthumous completion of legendary creator Harvey Kurtzman's adaptation of the classic Charles Dickens' novel―A Christmas Carol. Kurztman's ambitious concept for Marley's Ghost began in the 1950s―as an early "graphic novel"―but was never realized. Now, over 70 years later, writers Josh O'Neill and Shannon Wheeler expand upon Kurtzman's extensive adaptation notes while illustrator Gideon Kendall's outstanding artwork utilizes Kurtzman's breakdowns and stylistic choices to make this long-lost vision a reality!

This great holiday read is ideal for ages 10 and up due to some “spooky stuff and talk of death”!

Join us as we welcome back Gideon on December 21 from 2pm-5pm. We’ll have copies of the book that Gideon will be happy to sign and possibly some other surprises as well!

DARKFORM Signing

East Side Mags is super stoked to welcome all 4 members of the creative team behind DARKFORM - an amazing indie comic with talent spreading from Essex County to Venezuela!

Meet the minds behind DARKFORM and get all 4 signatures! Collect them all!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR/CREATOR My name is Marc Saporito, born and raised in Bloomfield NJ, married to my wife Allison for seventeen years. I have seven beautiful children. Caring for them is the driving force behind who I am and what I do!! I Love them so much!! I’m currently a maintenance worker, house painter, and former Christmas tree salesman!!! I remember the days of standing outside in the freezing cold At Plochs home and garden center, selling trees with my Plochs brothers!!! It was a great time every year!! A big shout out to them, you know who you are!!! Many thanks to Anibal for helping me visualize this project and helping me when I thought all hope was lost. Also thanks Junior for working with him. These two Artists are top notch in this field true masters of their craft!! Another big shoutout to my brother Tony and his wife Cecilia, love you both!! To my brother from another mother my producer and friend for over thirty years Daniel Russomano. He is also my creative partner on these projects who didn’t hesitate when I asked him for his help. When he agreed I then knew my lifelong dream was about to happen. The world is going to hear a lot from MDM STUDIOS, because we have a ton to say and create. So sit back and enjoy a new breed of superhero one that’s going to take the world by storm. Last but not least I know the world is a very harsh place at times but we need to help the less fortunate, honestly I try and do my part everyday!!! Thank you. You can find me on Facebook and Instagram under Marco Sappo!! God bless all!!!

My name is Junior Mejias, im a Venezuelan comic book artist and illustrator. My journey into comics began with a anime called Naruto, which I would watch every Saturday night. It made me fall in love with great storytelling and inspired to tell stories through my own art.

I think creating comics is much like creating a film, if not more challenging. As comic book artists we are tasked with bringing a script to life by depicting life, emotion, and movement through nothing but 2D images.

What I found works for me in my approach to creating comics is working backwards. What I mean by that is figuring out how I want the page to end and how that panel will look and go from there. An old professor of mine once told me if you drive without a destination you'll drive forever.

When it comes to artistic influences I have two that come to mind. Greg Capullo who penciled Spawn for many issues. He has spectacular pencils as well as an amazing eye for filling the space, and J Scott Campbell who’s known for his beautiful stylization of comic book women.

My favorite thing about making comics is the penciling alongside great storytelling. I love starting the production and creating something out of a blank page. I like to take my time rendering my pencils so tight they squeak!

On the other hand, my least favorite thing about creating comics would have to be the occasional artists block, sometimes you just cant find the the perfect angle for a specific scene and as a perfectionist I don't settle for anything but the best I can offer.

My name is Daniel Russomano i was born in Newark New Jersey and I reside in Nutley New Jersey . I have a son Daniel, a daughter-in-law Lindsay, a granddaughter Mila and another granddaughter on the way. I have a French bulldog named Rocky and a parakeet named Angel who are best friends. I like spending time with my family and pets. I also like to grow tomatoes in my garden. I like to read and go fishing.

My favorite super hero is of course The Dark Form. I also like all of the other superheroes. If I could choose one super power it would be to have the strength to unite the world in peace.

Marc Saporito and I have been friends and coworkers for over thirty years. So when he approached me about coming on board as a producer and investing in the dark form i said yes. Now we share our ideas and work together to create one of the best stories you will ever read. I am on Instagram @ thedarkform.official.

Anibal Arroyo is an illustrator and self published author. He is mostly self taught but did attend the prestigious Joe Kubert School of Cartooning and Graphic Illustration, achieving a one year certification. He has worked on several independent creator owned projects from graphic novels to children’s books.

He works in a variety of mediums including traditional as well as digital methods.  An exceptional sequential artist and storyteller with an incredible eye for detail, Anibal is an asset to any creative project he dives into.

And finally, we have Director’s Cut cover artist Hugo Bravo!

My name is Hugo Bravo and I’ve been a freelance illustrator since 1992, educated as an oil painter at the Fashion Institute of Technology, where I focused on life drawing, anatomy, and composition. My artwork spans various genres, including comics and cover art, with notable projects like the covers for the “Redeem The Knight” novel series by David V. Mammina. How I became a member of the Darkform team: It all started as a fun thing to do... recreate the cover of The Darkform issue #1 and show it to the creative team. To my surprise they used my art as the cover to the "Director's Cut" special edition.

Don’t miss this all-star signing and grab a copy of DARKFORM quadruple signed by all the creators!

Lisa Cheese Signing w/Kevin Alvir

Lisa Cheese & Ghost Guitar: Attack of the Snack seems like an average graphic novel for middle school aged kids but under the surface lies something extraordinary!

Taking relatable life situations: a job you can’t stand, parents that don’t understand, failed dreams and combining them with fantastic elements like a bionic arm, a unicorn and a demonic burger corporation - Lisa Cheese & Ghost Guitar is SO MUCH MORE than what you would expect and certainly it’s anything BUT average!

About the book: Lisa is a sweet unicorn girl with a cyborg arm… and anger issues… who’s late for her first day of work. And if this occult fast food chain’s minions don’t stop attacking, she’ll never achieve her dream of making it as a musician!

Lisa Cheese moved to Earth City hoping to make a name for herself as a folk singer… but her very first open mic was a disaster, leaving her with a bionic arm and an identity crisis. Now she’s starting a crummy office job, her parents back in their home dimension are laying on the guilt trip, her sister’s acting smug, and the cool girl at the record store leaves her tongue-tied. But none of that will matter if the city’s demonic new burger corporation achieves its evil ambitions: Lisa’s very life is at stake! Fortunately, she has allies…

About the creator: Kevin Alvir is a Brooklyn, New York based comic book maker, artist, educator, musician. His work has been featured in places such as Funny or Die, Current Affairs, HBO's High Maintenance, album covers, podcast tiles, and more. Kevin has done several webcomics: Lunch Adventures, Lisa Cheese : Cyborg Unicorn, Ghost Guitar, Scarberry, Meg Deerleg, Cock Knight, and more. Lisa Cheese & Ghost Guitar: Attack of the Snack is his first full length graphic novel. \

Kevin will be here signing copies of his book and will even have some copies of his minicomics to sale as well. He’ll be here from 2pm-5pm and we can’t be more excited! We hope you’ll join us for this amazing signing that also doubles as a spectacular holiday gift for that hard-to-shop-for friend or family member!

Mario Candelaria LIVE and IN-PERSON

A long time ago, in a comic shop just across the street, we hosted Mario Candelaria for a signing about a book he wrote called ASHES with our friend Karl Slominski. Mario was such a super cool guy and we had so much in common that we became fast friends!

Fast forward to 2020. The world is shut down and Mario reached out to us to see if we were ok and if we needed anything. Just that one touch - it meant the world to us in a time where we felt no one could hear us.

Now - the world has been re-opened and Mario is pumping out great idea after great idea! We’re super happy to have him here (just in time for the holidays) with 2 of his most recent works: Killchella and Tales from the Pandemic!

About Killchella: A group of friends attending a music festival in the desert face a bloody night of terror when an enigmatic pop star named Topanga Cornell recruits her most fanatical devotees to assist in a mass sacrifice ritual at her big return concert. The quest for good vibes quickly becomes a fight for survival as the crew tries to escape Topanga and her gang of blade-wielding obsessive fans she lovingly refers to as her "fawns" who will do anything #ForHerLove.

About Tales from the Pandemic: Band of Bards proudly presents Tales from the Pandemic, a retro pulp-styled collection of chaotic Twilight Zone-inspired short stories written and curated by Mario Candelaria, the twisted mind behind Killchella. Each story offers a skewed look at the lives of regular folks trying to make sense of peculiar encounters in a world that's caught in the throes of a pandemic.

Come meet Mario on November 25th from 2pm-5pm and get copies of these awesome all-in-one trade paperbacks, signed and ready for reading (or gifting)!
