To celebrate, East Side Mags is hosting:

Matt Cipoletti and BIG KEV’S GEEK STUFF Podcast will be here to talk to customers about Free Comic Book Day, comics, movies, TV shows and all things comic-related!

We will also be hosting a very special community art project to help support the MONTCLAIR PUBLIC LIBRARY and their summer reading program!  We will have a 6’ x 8’ canvas set up for the community to paint on!  The theme is “WHO’S YOUR SUPERHERO?”!  Come by 7 South Fullerton Ave in Montclair, NJ and add your own flavor!  Show us who the superhero is in your life!  Once the canvas is complete, we will be donating it to the MONTCLAIR PUBLIC LIBRARY!

UPDATE (4/21/15):  THIS JUST IN! East Side Mags will also be holding a kids' costume contest sponsored by DK and LEGO! Come by the store on FCBD (May 2nd, 2015) and we'll take your picture! Best costume gets a grand prize consisting of

Let's see those costumes, kids! Let's ROCK FCBD!

MORE FUN FOR FCBD: Our friends at the Montclair Film Festival have given us 2 tickets for 3 different movies showing after FCBD right here in Montclair! These tickets will be used as random door prizes for our customers!

Movie #1 - JACKRABBIT - In the dystopian near future, a computer hacker is found dead under mysterious circumstances, leaving behind an indecipherable hard drive. When fellow hacker Max (Ian Christopher Noel) comes to suspect foul play, he recruits a rival computer expert named Simon (Josh Caras) to help him solve the mystery. Carleton Ranney’s JACKRABBIT is a cyberpunk thriller that utilizes ingenious low budget filmmaking techniques to deliver a fully-formed vision of the future, a world where control is the greatest luxury item and the powerful electronic devices that connect us have been stripped away.

Movie #2 - STINKING HEAVEN - A New Jersey commune for former addicts, managed by husband and wife Jim (Keith Poulson) and Lucy (Deragh Campbell), begins to fall apart when Ann (Hannah Gross), an ex-girlfriend, unexpectedly arrives. Their fragile peace, established through exercises, chores, and selling tea, is threatened as personalities clash and the tension quickly escalates. With his chaotic and improvised style, director Nathan Silver’s STINKING HEAVEN is a brilliant addition to a growing body of work exploring dysfunctional relationships in unusual living spaces.

Movie #3 - TEARS OF GOD - In the rural countryside, Ida (Kate Lyn Sheil) struggles to cope with the loss of her father. Her community is ravaged by demonic possession, with only the single voice of Father Samuel (Samuel Herring) crying out against the madness overtaking the town. But Ida wants to reunite with the dead, and the only path she sees is communion with and surrender to the evil that surrounds her. Robert Hillyer Barnett’s TEARS OF GOD is a beautifully atmospheric horror film that tears at the fabric of social order, a meditation on mass hysteria cast in chiaroscuro, illuminating only despair.
